Background With TikTok's rising popularity as a hub for health information dissemination, the quality and nature of such content require assessment. This study investigates the popularity and quality of the top 100 most-liked videos tagged with "#acne" on TikTok. This study aims to examine the engagement and quality of acne-related content on TikTok, assess contributions from diverse sources, including physicians and non-physicians, and guide healthcare professionals in leveraging this platform for public health education. Methodology A cross-sectional analysis of the top 100 most-liked videos tagged with "#acne" on TikTok as of June 7, 2023, was conducted. Parameters assessed included the profession of the creator, gender, specialty, content type, and other observable characteristics. The quality was measured using the DISCERN tool. Results Of the dataset, 38 videos were by physicians and 29 by non-physicians. Physician-created content had higher mean views, likes, comments, shares, and favorites than non-physician-created content. Videos by dermatologists and non-dermatologists received similar engagement. Videos sharing personal experiences achieved the highest DISCERN score. Overall, DISCERN scores were uniformly low across all categories. Conclusions Physicians, especially dermatologists, are trusted sources of acne-related information on TikTok. The study underscores the need for professionals to provide reliable, evidence-based information on such platforms, guiding effective health communication in the digital age.

Music can serve as a potent tool for conveying emotions and regulating learners' moods, while the systematic application of emotional assessment can help to improve teaching efficiency. However, existing music emotion analysis methods based on Artificial Intelligence (AI) rely primarily on pre-marked content, such as lyrics and fail to adequately account for music signals' perception, transmission, and recognition. To address this limitation, this study first employs sound-level segmentation, data frame processing, and threshold determination to enable intelligent segmentation and recognition of notes. Next, based on the extracted audio features, a Radial Basis Function (RBF) model is utilized to construct a music emotion classifier. Finally, correlation feedback was used to label the classification results further and train the classifier. The study compares the music emotion classification method commonly used in Chinese music education with the Hevner emotion model. It identifies four emotion categories: Quiet, Happy, Sad, and Excited, to classify performers' emotions. The testing results demonstrate that audio feature recognition time is a mere 0.004 min, with an accuracy rate of over 95%. Furthermore, classifying performers' emotions based on audio features is consistent with conventional human cognition.

O artigo teve como objetivo compreender as apropriações das mídias pelos professores de Educação Física por meio das dimensões metodológica, crítica e expressivo-produtiva da Mídia-Educação. A etapa empírica envolveu a aplicação de um questionário e a realização de entrevista semiestruturada com professores da Educação Básica da cidade de Goiânia. Constatou-se que as mídias são usadas com um forte caráter instrumental, principalmente no planejamento das aulas. A abordagem crítica e os aspectos éticos e estéticos em relação à criação de conteúdos midiáticos são pouco explorados e sugere a importância de pautar estas questões na formação docente (AU).


This article aim is to understand the appropriations of media by Physical Education teachers by through the methodological, critical and expressive-productive dimensions of media education. It was applied a whole questionnaire conjoined with a semi-structured review to Basic Education teachers of the city of Goiânia. Media are enough used as a strong instrumental role, mainly in class planning. The work highlights that critical approach, as well as ethical and aesthetic aspects concerning media content crafting are not well explored, and ultimately suggests the signification for guiding these issues with respect teaching practice (


Este artículo tiene el objetivo de arrojar luz sobre el incorporación de dichos medios en relación con los docentes de Educación Física a través de un ámbito metodológico-crítico y expresivo-productivo da educación mediática. Se aplicó un cuestionario completo junto con una revisión semiestructurada a los docentes de Educación Básica en la ciudad de Goiânia. Los medios se utilizan suficientemente como un papel instrumental fuerte, principalmente en la planificación de clases. El enfoque crítico, así como los aspectos éticos y estéticos relacionados con la elaboración de contenidos mediáticos, no están bien explorados y, sugiere el significado de orientar estos temas con respeto a la práctica docente (AU).

The pandemic has accentuated the power that influencers have to influence their followers. Various scientific approaches highlight the lack of moral and ethical responsibility of these creators when disseminating content under highly sensitive tags such as health. This article presents a correlational statistical study of 443 Instagram accounts with more than one million followers belonging to health-related categories. This study aims to describe the content of these profiles and their authors and to determine whether they promote health as accounts that disseminate health-related content, identifying predictive factors of their content topics. In addition, it aims to portray their followers and establish correlations between the gender of the self-described health influencers, the characteristics of their audience and the messages that these prescribers share. Health promotion is not the predominant narrative among these influencers, who tend to promote beauty and normative bodies over health matters. A correlation is observed between posting health content, the gender of the influencers and the average age of their audiences. The study concludes with a discussion on the role of public media education and the improvement of ethical protocols on social networks to limit the impact of misleading and false content on sensitive topics, increasing the influence of real health prescribers.

BACKGROUND: Nowadays because of some necessities and demands for virtual and remote education, a new model of health approach through mobile-phones is widely used to deal with improving physical activity and its beneficial effect on pregnancy. There are a small number of studies for showing this importance and the efficacy of such methods, so this study was aimed to determine the influence of social networking through mobile phones on changing the physical activity behavior in pregnant women. METHODS: This randomized controlled trial was conducted with parallel groups on 90 pregnant women referring to Urmia health centers in 2018-2019. The participants from various social and economic backgrounds were included. The participants were randomly assigned to a control and a treatment group. Demographic and Pregnancy Physical Activity Questionnaire (PPAQ) questionnaires were filled. In addition to routine cares, the treatment group received educational intervention through social network within 16 training sessions related to physical activity and nutrition in 8 weeks. RESULTS: The mean weight in both control and treatment groups changed significantly during the study, but in different trends (P < 0.001, Mean Difference (MD) = 4.43). At the beginning of the study, control and treatment groups were not different in terms of daily physical activity level (P = 0.17, MD = 0.62), meanwhile, there was a statistically significant difference at the end of intervention in the level of daily physical activity (P < 0.001, MD = 0.69). Comparison of both groups, based on different categories of activity level at the end of the treatment, showed a non-significant difference in sedentary activities (P = 0.89, MD = 0.46), but the intervention led to a significant difference based on the other level of activities; light (P < 0.001, MD = 51.94), moderate (P < 0.001, MD = 46.87), and sever (P = 0.05, MD = 1.07). CONCLUSION: Educational intervention based on social networks through mobile phones had an effective role in behavior change in physical activity during pregnancy. This study presents the preliminary findings of the first round of implementation of a case study included in the Horizon 2020 project SMOOTH. The project's main objective is to introduce and study the emergent paradigm of the educational commons as an alternative system of values and actions for promoting intercultural and intergenerational dialogue and establishing spaces of democratic citizenship that support the development of local communities. Our case study adopts this paradigm with insights derived from the field of media education. Hence, our research questions were as follows: (a) How do young people collectively experience and build the educational commons? (b) How do participants (youth and adults) in educational commons experience peer governance and how do they handle and resolve conflicts? (c) How does the co-creation of a photo-blog as a shared space of work help young people discover and develop a "civic intentionality" in the (digital) public sphere? (d) What are the effects of applying a commons' logic to address inequalities and achieve social inclusion of young people from vulnerable social groups? Fieldwork, framed in an ethnographic and action-research approach, was developed by examining the three dimensions of the notion of educational commons (commoners, commoning practices, and community). Although data collection and analysis are still in progress, our preliminary results allow us to draw some initial reflections on what worked well in the first round and what could hinder the achievement of the project's objectives. We also propose hypotheses for re-designing the second round to overcome the weaknesses that emerged during the first experimental phase and foster its strengths.

RESUMO

O objetivo deste ensaio teórico consistiu em evidenciar um conjunto de argumentações que subsidiassem as reflexões sobre os (não) usos das tecnologias digitais na Educação Física escolar. Inspiramo-nos fundamentalmente no campo da Mídia-Educação e em pensadores da Escola de Frankfurt, que balizaram os olhares sobre as tecnologias na escola e na Educação Física. É possível vislumbrar a Mídia-Educação como abordagem privilegiada para o trato com o conteúdo midiático re--lacionado à cultura corporal. Finalmente, ressalta-se o papel necessário e urgente da Educação Física escolar em criar espaços de reflexão sobre os conteúdos midiáticos, tornando os estudantes conscientes das con--cepções distorcidas ou empobrecidas sobre a cultura corporal (AU).


The objective of this theoretical essay was to highlight a set of arguments that cold support the reflections on the (non) uses of digital technologies in school Physical Education. We were mainly inspired by the field of Media-Education and thinkers of the Frankfurt School, which marked out the views on the technologies in the school and in Physical Education. It is possible to see Media-Education as a privileged approach for dealing with media content related to body culture. Finally, it emphasizes the necessary and urgent role of school Physical Education in creating spaces for reflection on media content, making students aware of distorted or impoverished conceptions about body culture (AU).


El objetivo de este ensayo teórico fue destacar un conjunto de argumentos que apoyan las reflexiones sobre los usos (no) de las tecnologías digitales en la educación física escolar. Nos inspiramos principalmente en el campo de la Educación en Medios y los pensadores de la Escuela de Frankfurt, que marcó las opiniones sobre las tecnologías en la escuela y en la Educación Física. Es posible ver la Educación en Medios como un enfoque privilegiado para tratar con contenido mediático relacionado con la cultura corporal. Finalmente, enfatizamos el papel necesario y urgente de la Educación Física escolar en la creación de espacios para la reflexión sobre el contenido de los medios, haciendo que los estudiantes tomen conciencia de los conceptos distorsionados o empobrecidos sobre la cultura corporal (AU)

With the advent of the 5G era, humans must not only learn the knowledge and skills of cross-border integration but must also get to grips with the breadth and efficiency of artificial intelligence (AI) technology in order to jointly overcome current difficulties and create a happy and beautiful life. In this article, we use the example of an elementary school to discuss the decision-making factors that influence teachers when choosing AI technology, where the digital content of schools is imported into artificial intelligence-based collaborative teaching. After discussing the relevant literature, this study will introduce the concept of digital media education, and then compare the development and application of smart technology and human-computer collaborative teaching methods, describing three key aspects and factors that influence elementary school teachers' choice of AI technology. There are 12 evaluation criteria in total. After the completion of expert questionnaires and data analysis, it was found that the main factors affecting teachers' choice of AI technology are "collaborative tasks," "functional characteristics," and "modeling characteristics." In terms of evaluation criteria, the four most important aspects were found to be "learning assistance," "security," "teaching observation," and "record review." The results of this research analysis will help provide a reference for digital content development and individual recommendation services. In future work, this study can further discuss teaching innovations in digital media education, aimed at improving the quality and effectiveness of teaching and learning.

Physical inactivity and coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) signify two pandemics with negative physical, mental, and economic consequences. Younger and older people have not reached the recommended physical activity level for years. Societal restrictions due to COVID-19 additionally reduce opportunities for physical activity, and they increase social isolation. Here, we outline how playing exergames with others (social exergaming) at home could foster physical and mental health and promote communication and discussions on exergaming. Accordingly, we highlight the educational and social benefits of exergaming at home and delineate the concept of Educational and Social Exergaming (EASE). We outline specific benefits and pitfalls of exergaming regarding its physical and nonphysical effects, including educational values of discussing exergaming experiences and related topics. Moreover, we discuss the relevance of practical guidelines for educational and social exergaming at home as well as prospects for future research. Overall, educational and social exergaming could alleviate several detrimental effects of both pandemics on the health and well-being of people of all ages.

Music can affect the behavior and emotion of children and adolescents. We conducted a content and trend analysis of Billboard's top 10 songs, 1999-2018, with particular attention to adult and positive themes. There was a total of 3633 total references, 3298 (90.8%) adult themes, and 335 (9.2%) positive themes. The most common adult themes were "sexually suggestive lyrics" (32.2%), "sexually suggestive dancing" (15.6%), "use of swear words" (13.7%), "alcohol use" (4.7%), and "use of guns/deadly weapons" (4.7%). The most common positive theme was "empowerment" (62.3%). There were greater references per minute for adult themes (4.8 vs. 3.7 references per minute) and positive themes (0.6 vs. 0.3 references per minute) in the 2009-2018 study period as compared with the 1999-2008 study period. We encourage pediatric healthcare providers to be active participants in the promotion of media education, and we encourage parents to be mindful of the level of media exposure.

Trata-se dos resultados de uma investigação em educação física escolar que promoveu uma experiência pedagógica mediada pela concepção de mídia-educação. O trabalho foi conduzido metodologicamente de acordo com os princípios da pesquisa-ação. A pedagogia crítico-emancipatória foi o eixo das ações didáticas investigadas associadas a uma proposta de produção de audiovisual com estudantes da educação básica. Conteúdos esportivos são referenciados por meio de pesquisa dos estudantes e apresentados em vídeo. À luz dos fundamentos teóricos da mídia-educação e as aproximações da educação física a este campo educacional, são discutidos os resultados da pesquisa que sugerem a necessidade de um planejamento didático contextualizado e que possibilite abertura aos discentes a um protagonismo nas aulas. Assim, a proposta reuniu aspectos que potencializaram um ambiente de coparticipação dos estudantes durante o processo de ensino-aprendizagem, aspecto caro aos objetivos da mídia-educação.(AU)


These are the results of an investigation in school physical education that promoted a pedagogical experience mediated by the conception of media-education. The work was methodologically conducted according to the principles of action research. The critical-emancipatory pedagogy was the axis of the didactic actions investigated associated to a proposal of audiovisual production with students of basic education. Sports content is referenced through student research and presented on video. In the light of the theoretical foundations of media-education and the approaches of physical education to this field of education, we discuss the results of the research that suggest the need for a contextualized didactic planning and that makes possible to open the students to a protagonism in the classes. Thus, the proposal brought together aspects that enhanced an environment of students' co-participation during the teachinglearning process, an expensive aspect of the media-education objectives.(AU)

Researchers might be wondering whether the use of social media by students raises any ethical issues? It is my opinion that with the astronomical increase in the use of social networking websites or platforms by students, ethical issues are progressively important. The astronomical increase in the use of social networking platforms by minors raises ethical questions in school ecologies. This study investigated the ethical issues in social media usage among secondary school students in a developing context. A semi-structured questionnaire that elicited information on the school children's home background, social media operated, and mode of connection to the social media was used to collect data. The questionnaire gave the students the opportunity to write their responses to the interview questions freely. Mixed methods such as constant comparative techniques and descriptive statistical methods were used to analyze data from the one hundred and thirty school children that participated in this research. The results indicated that Facebook is the most operated social networking website by the selected schoolchildren. Most of the schoolchildren operating the popular social networking accounts signed up before the age of thirteen with the help of their biological sisters and brothers. Themes such as cyber pornography, sexting, cyber stalking, cyber bullying, cyber hacking, and abusive language emanated from the individual qualitative interviews. The concluding part of this article answers questions on the impact of new communication technologies on psycho-social adjustment of school children in developing countries.

Largely absent from educational/instructional technology journals, this study focused on how K-12 art teachers in a southern state used technology to support teaching and learning, uses they found to be the best, and what kinds of technology training they received as part of their initial teacher preparation. Findings indicated that presentation and resource access technologies had transformed the way art teachers in the study work with students and materials. They also had little use of technology to support students with special needs and had limited technology experiences in their own training. Elementary art teachers were found to have more examples of student higher-order thinking skills promoting technology use, while secondary art teachers had more student media creation and a desire to implement digital portfolios. Additional findings and interpretations are offered.

Diante do cenário da sociedade hiperconectada e das mutações culturais da comunicação, o objetivo do presente estudo foi sistematizar e analisar uma experiência de remixagem corporal de um jogo digital no âmbito da Educação Física escolar. Realizamos uma observação participante, em perspectiva descritiva e exploratória, com abordagem qualitativa dos achados da pesquisa. Calcados nos pressupostos da mídia-educação (física) e no conceito de remixagem, ressignificamos corporalmente o game Garena Free Fire em três das suas dimensões: as regras, os elementos e os ambientes. A partir da experiência, mobilizamos os preceitos da ética hacker e do game design para analisa-la. Por fim, identificamo-la como uma possibilidade de remodelagem da tecnologia, de (re)existência do jogar/brincar, de reinvenção dos lazeres e de expansão do repertório de práticas corporais.


Given the scenario of hyperconnected society and cultural mutations in communication, the objective of the present study was to systematize and analyze an experience of body remixing of a digital game within the scope of school Physical Education. We performed a participant observation, in a descriptive and exploratory perspective, with a qualitative approach to the research findings. Based on the assumptions of media-education (physical) and the concept of remixing, we resignify the game Garena Free Fire in three of its dimensions: rules, elements and environments. From experience, we have mobilized the precepts of hacker ethics and game design to analyze it. Finally, we identified it as a possibility for the remodeling of technology, the (re) existence of to play, the reinvention of leisure activities and the expansion of the repertoire of bodily practices.


Dado el escenario de sociedad hiperconectada y mutaciones culturales en la comunicación, el objetivo del presente estudio fue sistematizar y analizar una experiencia de remezcla corporal de un juego digital dentro del alcance de la Educación Física escolar. Realizamos una observación participante, en una perspectiva descriptiva y exploratoria, con un enfoque cualitativo de los resultados de la investigación. Basados en los supuestos de la educación mediática (física) y el concepto de remezclar, volvemos a significar corporalmente el juego Garena Free Fire en tres de sus dimensiones: reglas, elementos y entornos. Por experiencia, hemos movilizado los preceptos de la ética de los hackers y el diseño del juego para analizarlo. Finalmente, la identificamos como una posibilidad para la remodelación de la tecnología, la (re) existencia del jugar, la reinvención de actividades de ocio y la expansión del repertorio de prácticas corporales.

Babushka informal markets selling several homemade gastronomic plant and animal-based products and culinary preparations, as well as wild and cultivated plants, and sometimes family butchered barnyard animals are extremely popular in Ukraine. In this field study that we conducted over a few years we inventoried the most relevant food plant products sold in these markets and we analysed how these markets represent remarkable food refugia for several local niche foods. In addition, we researched the historical and socio-economic reasons for the start, survival, and revival of this phenomenon, which had its origin during the Communist period. We furthermore evaluated similar recent trends in other Eastern European countries and especially those which had a very different post-Communist trajectory with the aim of addressing the possible factors affecting their survival and what could be done to preserve their existence. In particular, in a few of these countries (i.e. Azerbaijan) we observed how informal food markets represent experimental fields where gastronomic knowledge is not only "preserved", but also reinvented, possibly in response to the preferences and requests of a city's customers.

O objetivo do estudo é caracterizar os modos como os corpos com deficiência e as questões de diversidade e inclusão se apresentam nas narrativas das HQs de Maurício de Sousa. Adota-se a análise semiótica como perspectiva metodológica para abordar criticamente as questões sobre deficiência nas HQs. Verifica-se que os personagens com deficiência foram inseridos nas narrativas e interagem com os demais personagens, sendo incluídos no meio social. As deficiências são tratadas a partir de uma abordagem social, com ênfase nas questões da acessibilidade e preconceitos, em detrimento de um olhar para suas limitações para a vivência da infância. O respeito às diferenças e o reforço às qualidades dos colegas com deficiência foram valores recorrentes nos discursos analisados nas HQs.


The purpose of the study is to characterize the ways in which the bodies with disabilities and the issues of diversity and inclusion are represented in the narratives of the comics by Maurício de Sousa. The text starts from a semiotic analysis as a methodological perspective to critically address issues related to disability in comics. We verified that the disabled charac-ters were inserted in the narratives and interacted with the other characters. The deficiencies were treated based on a social approach, rather than being looked at bytheir limitations or commitments to the experience of childhood. Respect for differences and reinforcement of the qualities of colleagues with disabilities were recurrent values in the discourses analyzed in the comics.


El objetivo de este estudio es caracterizar los modos como los cuerpos con discapacidady las cuestiones de diversidad e inclusión son representadas en las narrativas de los cómics de Maurício de Sousa. El texto parte de un análisis semiótico como perspectiva metodológica para abordar críticamente las cuestiones relacionadas con la discapacidad en los cómics. Veri-ficamos que los personajes con discapacidad fueron insertados en las narrativas e interactua-ron con los demás personajes. Las deficiencias fueron tratadas a partir de un enfoque social, en detrimento de ser miradas por sus limitaciones o compromisos para la vivencia de la infan-cia. El respeto a las diferencias y el refuerzo a las cualidades fueron valores recurrentes en los discursos analizados en los cómics.

O estudo apresenta como objetivo fomentar o uso das mídias tecnológicas e digitais no âmbito escolar, bem como proporcionar aos discentes uma experiência que estabeleça uma aproximação dos conteúdos da Educação Física escolar ao seu cotidiano. Os estudantes trouxeram encenações teatrais, roteiros educativos e descritivos, filmagens de cidadãos e cidadãs da cidade em atividades diversas. Consideramos que as possibilidades das mídias digitais serem trabalhadas nas aulas de Educação Física constituem-se enriquecedoras, haja vista o envolvimento, o aprendizado e os conhecimentos difundidos através da exploração da linguagem audiovisual entre os discentes.


The objective of this study is to promote the use of technological and digital media in the school environment, as well as to provide students with an experience that establishes an ap-proximation of the contents of Physical School Education to their daily life. The students brought theater theatrics, educational and descriptive scripts, filming of city citizens in vari-ous activities. We consider that the possibilities of working digital media in physical educa-tion classes, even if simple, are enriching, given the involvement, learning and knowledge spread through the exploitation of audiovisual language among students.


El estudio presenta como objetivo fomentar el uso de los medios tecnológicos y digitales en el ámbito escolar, así como proporcionar a los alumnos una experiencia que estableciera una aproximación de los contenidos de la Educación Física escolar a su cotidiano. Los estudiantes trajeron escenarios teatrales, guiones educativos y descriptivos, filmaciones de ciudadanos y ciudadanas de la ciudad en actividades diversas. Consideramos que las posibilidades de traba-jar los medios digitales en las clases de Educación Física, aunque simplistas, se constituyen enriquecedoras, habida cuenta del involucramiento, el aprendizaje y los conocimientos difun-didos a través de la exploración del lenguaje audiovisual entre los alumnos.

RESUMO

Este artigo oferece reflexões desenvolvidas por órgãos institucionais e pesquisadores a respeito da mídia-educação. Para isso considerou-se a ocorrência e recorrência dos mesmos nos seguintes espaços: i) dissertação de mestrado educacional do autor que investigou a inserção curricular das Novas Tecnologias de Informação e Comunicação (NTIC) na formação de professores em Minas Gerais; e ii) produções presentes no Grupo de Trabalho Temático (GTT) "Comunicação e Mídia" do Conbrace. A dimensão proposta como eixo norteador permitiu refletir acerca das discussões, das tendências e dos desafios da mídia-educação na conjuntura social e educativa. Como ponto principal de relevância destaca-se a possibilidade de contribuição na formação contemporânea de professores, em especial de Educação Física.


This article offers reflections about media-education from institutions and researchers. For the election of the subjects of the investigation, it was considered the occurrence and recurrence of the names: i) the dissertation of the master in education of the author who research, through the content analysis and from the media-education, the curricular insertion of the NTIC and the formation of professors in Minas Gerais; ii) the presents productions in the GTT "Communication and Media" of the Conbrace. The proposed dimension like guiding axis allowed reflect about the discussions, the trends and the challenges of the media-education and the social and educative conjuncture. The main point of relevance is the possibility of contribution in the training of teachers, especially in Physical Education, in face of the contemporary educational needs.


Este artículo ofrece reflexiones al respecto de la media-educación a partir de órganos institucionales e investigadores. Para la elección de los sujetos de la investigación fue considerada la ocurrencia y recurrencia de los nombres: i) La disertación de maestría educacional del autor que investiga, a través de análisis de contenido y a partir de la media-educación, la inserción curricular de las NTIC en la formación de profesores en Minas Gerais; y ii) las producciones presentes en el GTT "Comunicación y Media" del Conbrace.. La dimensión propuesta como eje guia permitió reflexionar acerca de las discusiones, de las tendencias y de desafíos de la media-educación en la coyuntura social y educativa. Como punto principal de relevancia se destaca la posibilidad de contribución en la formación de profesores, en especial de Educación Física, frente a las necesidades educativas contemporáneas.

While media education and reduction programs have been proposed to prevent adverse health and academic outcomes related to heavy electronic media use among school-aged children, few have been formally piloted and evaluated. We used a quasi-experimental design to evaluate the effectiveness of Take the Challenge (TtC), a school-based media education/reduction program for the primary prevention of sleep deprivation, dysfunctional social-emotional behaviors, and poor academic performance. Sixth- to eighth-grade students at a rural Midwestern U.S. middle school received the TtC program, while a similar school in the same district served as the comparison group. Health-related and academic measures were collected from students and teachers at both schools before and after the intervention. The primary outcome measure was student-reported electronic media use (television, video games, Internet). Secondary measures included student health behaviors (student-reported sleep, exercise, and outdoor play) and academic activities (teacher-reported homework and classroom performance). Compared to the comparison group, students receiving TtC slept more and reduced television viewing, background television time, after-school video gaming, and weekend Internet use. Teachers reported increases in the extent to which TtC students completed homework assignments and stayed on task in the classroom. Well-designed school-based programs such as TtC can reduce electronic media use among middle-school children and improve related health and academic outcomes.
